Traffic
April 13, 2008 on 1:45 pm | Written by: Justine Rothbart | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentIsn’t the traffic on I-95 bad enough? This waterpark will definitelly not improve the traffic situation, it will just make it worse! On April 8th, I went to a Public Hearing in downtown Fredericksburg about this waterpark. Todd Nelson, the owner of Kalahari Resorts, talked for about thirty minutes about the waterpark. One thing he mentioned was the traffic. He said that he knows traffic is an issue, but the waterpark won’t bring more traffic than your local Wal-mart. And then he said he will try to make improve traffic. That is all he said!
Not an easy decision
April 13, 2008 on 1:30 pm | Written by: Justine Rothbart | In Uncategorized | No CommentsDeciding whether or not Fredericksburg should have this waterpark is not an easy decision. There are some positive things, and there are also some negative things. I do not want this water park to be built. However, it is hard for me to explain to people why. Have you ever seen “You’ve got mail”? Of course you have. Well, this reminds me of that. Fox books is like Kalahari Resorts. At the end, Meg Ryan’s store “The shop around the corner” goes out of business because of the big buisness of Fox books. And then she ends up going to Fox books and it is a very nice place. There is food in the bookstore, tons of books, and very nice employees helping customers find what they want. Kalahari Resorts is like Fox books because even though it is a very nice water park, we do not need it. I am not saying that Kalahari Resorts will make the small water parks go out of buisness (there aren’t any.) I am saying that Kalahari Resorts is a very nice resort and waterpark and it is hard to say “no” to something like that. However, I still do not want it built.

Info
April 9, 2008 on 6:13 pm | Written by: Justine Rothbart | In Uncategorized | 2 CommentsA new waterpark and resort is proposed to be built in Fredericksburg, VA. It would be built on the other side of I-95 right near Central Park.
“Kalahari submitted a Letter of Intent to Mayor Thomas J. Tomzak, M.D., dated
January 7, 2008. The Letter of Intent set forth Kalahari’s interest in developing an
African-themed waterpark resort hotel and conference center in Celebrate Virginia
South (“the Project,” as further defined below), if the City and EDA would provide
certain economic incentives.”
“Kalahari shall construct the Project and open it to the public for business by nolater than July 1, 2010.” Click here for more information.
Why?
April 9, 2008 on 6:11 pm | Written by: Justine Rothbart | In Uncategorized | 2 CommentsWhy do we need a waterpark? Many people say that it has many job opportunities. However, Fredericksburg can create new jobs another way. It does not have to bring in a massive “Disney World” and destroy what is good here. Maybe the city can create “Green jobs.” Many jobs can be created within environmental companies.
How can we stop this? In the early 90s, Disney was going to build “Disney’s America” in Hayfield VA. For a long time people who lived there fought Disney and did not want it in there city. Finally they won and Disney’s America was not built. Can we learn something from this? Maybe we can stop Kalahari Resorts from coming to Fredricksburg.
